The United Nations System in Eritrea colorfully commemorated the UN day on 24 October 2007 at the UN compound in the presence of H.E. Mr. Osman Salih, Minister of Foreign Affairs, other government officials, the diplomatic community, invited guests and the UN staff.

The United Nations System in Eritrea colorfully commemorated the UN day on 24 October 2007 at the UN compound in the presence of H.E. Mr. Osman Salih, Minister of Foreign Affairs, other government officials, the diplomatic community, invited guests and the UN staff.

H.E. Mr. Osman Salih, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Eritrea, in the speech he delivered on the occasion, pointed out that the Horn of Africa is passing through a testing times and that the problems in the region are compounded by the ill advised policies of some nations towards the countries of the region.

Despite this indifferences, the Minister stressed that Eritrea will not allow the stalemate to hinder its efforts towards the achievement of the internationally agreed Millennium Development Goals. In his concluding remarks, the Minister reiterated his Government's readiness for a more enhanced cooperation with its bilateral and multilateral development partners.

The Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General Ambassador Lebo hang Moleko, on his part read the Secretary General’s message of the UN Day which focused on the need for global solutions for global problems. “Global problems demand global solutions--and going it alone is not a viable option. Whether we are speaking of peace and security, development, or human rights, demands on our organization are growing every day”, said the message
